Room check with KUNe

What you should check before buying a sink in your home. A step-by-step guide.

You have decided to buy a sink from KUNe, which makes us very happy! But what happens now? Before you choose the right size sink, you should check a few things in your room.

Directly to the short overview

Step 1: The right position

Where exactly do you want to place your sink? Select a desired location indoors or outdoors. Now you need to think about what you want to use your sink for and whether the location actually makes sense in practice.

  • Hobby: Do I have to walk through other rooms with dirty objects (greasy barbecue grill, hunting utensils, dirty bicycles) to reach my sink?
  • Laundry room: does the cleaning bucket have to be carried far?
  • Workshop: When I’m working, is the pool in my way?
  • Kitchen: Are the distances for heavy pots too long or ideal?

An overview of all possible applications and a few examples can be found here: https://kune-online.com/k/ausgussbecken-edelstahl/

You have now found the ideal place for your KUNe washing trough. In the next step, we will take a closer look at the condition of the wall in your premises.

Step 2: Checking the wall

This check is particularly essential for the subsequent wall mounting of your sink, but should be carried out at the very beginning. Depending on the wall structure, you may need additional installation material. A specialist should be consulted for special wall structures.

The most common wall structures at a glance:

  • Brick / concrete: This wall is suitable for installing the sink. You can use our supplied installation material.
  • Insulating brick / aerated concrete (Ytong): For this wall construction, we recommend the use of adhesive anchors during installation. These are included as standard with our Plus pools. Adhesive anchors are threaded rods that are glued into the wall using composite mortar (adhesive). You can carry out the installation of your washbasin.
  • Drywall construction with wooden studs or wooden planking: We recommend the use of hanger bolts for wall mounting. These are included with our standard pools. We recommend pre-drilling with a DN 3-3.5 mm drill bit.
  • Drywall construction with metal studs or without wooden planking: ATTENTION! You should contact a specialist for this wall construction. Our supplied fixing material is not suitable in this case. Please consult a specialist or drywall builder in order to select suitable fixing material.
  • Other wall construction: Please consult a specialist.

You have already successfully completed 2 important room checks. You know where to install your washbasin and whether your wall structure is suitable for installation in the desired location. Now you can get back to the details. Now it’s time to measure!

Step 3: Measuring the space

Grab your rolling meter or a tape measure and measure the space. How much space do you actually have for a KUNe washbasin?

What you should measure:

  • Width: What is the maximum width of the sink? Please note the difference between the inside and outside dimensions. When measuring, you must always stick to the external dimensions to avoid unexpected surprises.
  • Depth: The depth of the basin is also important. Do you still have enough space to open your door?
  • Height: The sink itself has a certain height. When installing it, you should pay attention to the height of the person using the sink. And: the intended use should be taken into account when choosing the right height. Do you use the sink to fill buckets and watering cans, or do you use it to wash your spare car parts?

You can find all the internal and external dimensions of our wash troughs in our online store: https://kune-online.com/k/ausgussbecken-edelstahl/

Measuring

Step 4: Observe the distances

This point is part of the measuring process. However, it is listed separately to emphasize the importance of this point. If you pay close attention to the distances, you will ensure long-term comfort in your washroom. The following distances must be observed:

Distance to …

  • Doors
  • Sockets
  • Boxes
  • Connections (water connection, sewer connection …)
  • Work tables / workbenches

You are one big step closer to your ideal washbasin. Just one more step and you can start choosing your dream basin.

Step 5: Check the connections

You have now carried out almost all the important checks in your room. The only thing left to do is to check the connections before choosing the right basin with the right accessories.

Questions about the connection:

  • Where is your water connection located?
  • What is the distance between the sewer and water connection?
  • Do you want to use hot and cold water? Then you may need an instantaneous water heater.
